0910 Shelbourne v Athlone Town

Fri 24th April 2009: FAI League of Ireland – Division 1
Shelbourne 2-0 Athlone Town

Despite a decent 1st half showing, Town crumbled over a 10 minute spell at the start of the 2nd half with former Town striker Anthony “Bisto” Flood scoring a header and then he crossed for Derek Doyle to net the 2nd goal just minutes later!

Even with Shels being reduced to 10 men after David Crawley saw Red, Athlone failed to capitalise on the numerical advantage as the rain fell over Tolka Park.
Not all was lost though, on a bright note, young Kevin Horan made a substitute appearance making him the youngest ever player to play a League game for Athlone Town. I don’t have the exact age in years & days but the 16-year-old beats the record Robbie Benson set last year.

From a photo point of view I didn’t find the lighting in Tolka that good … but maybe that’s just me!

Kit for this game was: Canon 40D, Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 II EX DG APO MACRO HSM Lens, Manfrotto monopod, chair & waterproof trousers!!!
