0920 Wexford Youths v Athlone Town

Friday 3rd July 2009 – FAI League of Ireland Division 1
Wexford Youths 1-0 Athlone Town

With 6 first teamers missing things were always going to be tough but Town should have done a lot better against a Wexford side who lost keeper Packie Holden through injury and with no sub keeper on the bench were forced to stick an outfield player in goals.

Alex O’Reilly and Mick Byrne made League debuts for Athlone while Johnny Mernegh returned to the Club going straight into the starting lineup. Not a bad debut from the lads but overall we should have turned them over.

Wexford could only combat the skill and talent of Robbie Benson by kicking him at every opportunity!

Kit Used: Canon 40D, Sigma 70-200 f/2.8, Manfrotto monopod

Robbie Benson got kicked up and down the pitch any time he got near the ball

Mix up in defence cost us a goal but other than that Des Hope had another solid performance
