0927 Athlone Town v Sporting Fingal

Athlone Town 1-2 Sporting Fingal

Athlone banished their recent goalscoring hoodoo against Fingal when Franco Georgescu got on the end of a Tom O’Halloren cross to net a 1st half equaliser, but despite being reduced to 10 men after Shaun Maher wrestled Austin Skelly to the ground, Fingal were again the stronger team and took advantage to score a 2nd half winner.
Conditions didnt help either side with a mini storm hitting Lissywollen during the opening 20 minutes … a downpour which continued well after the final whistle.
Athlone seemed to try 1 tactic all game … get the ball to Brian Cleary and hope he can follow up with a defence splitting pass every time the ball reached him. Unfortunately it never really worked. For the most part it wasnt a pretty game to watch but taking the positives out of it, Franco netted his first of hopefully many goals for Athlone Town.
