Saturday, 6th March 2010 – Airtricity League. Drom.
Salthill Devon 0-1 Athlone Town

For the 2nd season in a row Athlone Town travelled to the Leagues newest facility to kick off the new season. Same direction as this time last year but a little furtyher out to Drom to take on new boys Salthill Devon.

To say Drom is off the beaten track is an understatement and when you evernyually find it the cross wind that hits you makes you wish you hadnt found it at all.

All in all it was a dour affair with a 10th minute goal from Austin Skelly just about enough to take all 3 points for the Town. Salthill hit the woodwork late on, as did Athlone but overall Town did just enough to hang on. I suppose its better to play bad and get all 3 points than play great and lose!
